Our study shows a long-term efficacy of proximal row carpectomy. This treatment must be considered in the therapeutic arsenal for a degenerative and painful wrist, and it should no longer be regarded as a salvage procedure. Advantages of this intervention are obvious: technical simplicity, short reh …
Proximal row carpectomy is a motion sparing procedure for symptomatic radiocarpal arthritis. It is performed with relative ease and without permanent implants. Excision of the proximal carpal row preserves nearly a 70 degree arc of wrist flexion/extension and 70% to 90% of grip strength.
- Discussion: - coverts a complex link joint to a simple hinge by creating a radiocarpal articulation; - motion between the radius and capitate is both translational and rotational, which has the effect of dissipating forces on the radius; - expect 60-80% of contralateral motion (w/ about an 80% flexion-extension arc); Proximal row carpectomy (PRC) is a surgical technique used in some patients with advanced degenerative change in the wrist. The proximal row of carpal bones are excised, converting the wrist joint into a simple hinge-type radiocarpal articulation. • The goals for hand the rapy following a proximal row carpectomy are to regain range of motion, decrease pain, regain strength and return to functional activities. • You will be seen in hand therapy 1 time a week starting at six weeks post-operative. -Weeks 0-2: Remain in the post-operative short arm splint.

Proximal row carpectomy is extremely useful as a wrist reconstructive technique for cases of degenerative joint arthritis of the radiocarpal joint cause by scapholunate advanced collapse, scapholunate advanced collapse, schaphoid nonunion advanced collapse, trans-scaphoid perilunate fracture dislocations, lunate dislocations, and Kienböck disease.

Advanced osteoarthritis of the wrist or the distal articulation of the lunate with the capitate has traditionally been treated surgically by arthrodesis. Proximal Row Carpectomy with Dorsal Capsular Interposition Arthroplasty.
Many conditions—most commonly untreated scaphoid nonunions and chronic scapholunate dissociation—can result in scapholunate advanced collapse pattern of arthritis, whereby the radioscaphoid and midcarpal joint become degenerative. The goals for hand therapy following a proximal row carpectomy are to regain range of motion, decrease pain, regain strength and return to functional activities. You will be seen in hand therapy 1 time a week starting at six weeks post-operative.

The proximal row carpectomy (PRC) is a motion preserving procedure which creates a new joint without arthrosis. It is a frequently used procedure in stage II of a posttraumatic degenerative arthrosis of the wrist after scaphoid nonunion or scapholunate ligament instability (SNAC-/SLAC-wrist).

Proximal row carpectomy (PRC) is a motion-preserving treatment for the degenerated wrist. PRC provides painless wrist range of motion with few complications. PRC treats specifically scapholunate advanced collapse, scaphoid non-union advanced collapse, chronic perilunate dislocations, and … PRC – proximal row carpectomy is a surgical procedure that removes a row of small bones in the wrist. In reality, the surgeons change a complex joint in the wrist to a simple yet workable hinge. One good part about a PRC as compared to other wrist surgeries is that it has the least amount of recovery time. Proximal row carpectomy is extremely useful as a wrist reconstructive technique for cases of degenerative joint arthritis of the radiocarpal joint cause by scapholunate advanced collapse, scapholunate advanced collapse, schaphoid nonunion advanced collapse, trans-scaphoid perilunate fracture dislocations, lunate dislocations, and Kienböck disease.
